Book Review: Fix Her Up by Tessa Bailey

Title: Fix Her Up

Author: Tessa Bailey

Genre: Rom-Com

Rating: 3.5/5

Spice level: 3/5

Tropes:

  • Brother's best friend

  • Sports romance (?)

  • Grumpy / Sunshine

  • Fake dating

Plot: When Travis Ford returns to his hometown after an injury ends his MLB career, all he wants is to mope in his apartment eating takeout and not facing the outside world. His best friends little sister, a literal party-clown, refuses to let him mope though. She helps him realize there is more to him than just being a player (of both women and baseball), and maybe there's more to her too.

Georgie Castle has been in love with Travis Ford for as long as she can remember, back when he was just her brother's best friend and when he was a Major League Baseball player. So when a fake relationship ends up being mutually beneficial and her chance to make her family realize she's grown up, she jumps on it. She soon realizes Travis is not the man she has idolized for all these years. He's flawed and has his own demons. But what if that makes her love him more?

My thoughts: This book has a lot of my favorite tropes, but I was honestly disappointed mainly just because of the ending. Baseball player, brother's best friend, childhood crush to lovers, SIGN ME UP. I was rooting for Travis and Georgie the entire book, but the ending honestly just ruined it for me.
